Elliott’s seventeeth studio album is also his first self-titled recording…sorta.
In I Am John Mayer, Elliott addresses his new identity as a father, his former identity as an aspiring musician with a complicated name, and the quarter century evolution from one to the other. The album includes performances by the Band of Supervisors: Andrew Laubacher (drums and percussion), Oscar Westesson (bass), and Tim Marcus (electric guitar and pedal steel).
I Am John Mayer was recorded earlier this year at 2200 Studios in Sausalito, CA (formerly The Record Plant). It was engineered by Matty McDavid, mixed by Kevin Smith, and mastered by Gavin Lurssen.
